Want to know the newborn essentials you will love as a first time parent? These are key newborn essentials that you need for your baby.
Preparing for your newborn can be so exciting as a first-time parent. Like other parents who work, academic parents are likely interested in figuring out what newborn essentials will make taking care of a newborn simpler. In this post I am giving you the top newborn essentials that made taking care of my newborn so much easier.
You are going to learn all about the newborn essentials that academic parents, and graduate student parents will appreciate. We will highlight baby needs for first time moms and best newborn must haves.
Making note of these essentials will get you started with the baby items that will make this new stage of life more streamlined.
1. Swaddles
Swaddles are not only good for making sure your baby is safe and cozy while they sleep, but they have so many other uses. They can be used to cover your baby’s legs if they are just sitting in their chair during the day (or as a blanket for you!), as a car seat cover, a protective cover to lay baby on, and so many more uses! Here is a link to my favorite swaddles by aden + anais.
2. Simple and Calm Lighting for Nursery
It is helpful to have dimmable lighting in the nursery that promotes a calm environment for baby (especially at night). You also might want to consider lighting that is very easy to turn on since you will likely be moving in and out of the nursery holding a wiggly baby so it will be difficult to fumble with lights that are hard to turn on. I like tap or flip lights for this reason. We were gifted the Casper Glow Lights and I think they are amazing for the nursery! These lights sync together and come on by flipping the light upside down. This is great for getting quick, soft light at night for feedings and diaper changes. The lights slowly dim after a certain amount of time which is great to encourage sleep.
3. Bottle Warmer
Bottle warmers are great because they keep you from having to warm bottles by boiling water on the stove and waiting for the milk to get to the appropriate temperature. Our bottle warmer allows you to set a time for warming so you just put a bottle in the device and press “go.” So easy!
4. Underprotection pads
It was my husband’s idea to get these underprotection pads and cover our diaper changing pad and bassinet mattress with it – fabulous idea! Once they get dirty we just throw them away and replace the pads with a clean one. This way we are not constantly washing bassinet sheets and diaper changing pad covers.
5. Pacifier Clips
These are great for keeping pacifiers from falling on the floor! Once they fall they have to be cleaned again, and if you don’t have a pacifier clip you will constantly be looking for pacifiers that have fallen on the floor and then having to clean them all day! I love these neutral colored pacifier clips from amazon.
6. Dr. Browns Pacifier and Bottle Wipes
Speaking of pacifiers, these Dr. Brown’s Pacifier and Bottle Wipes are great for quick pacifier cleaning or for when you are on the go! I have a package in our diaper bags, as well as our diaper caddy that we use around the house. That way if you find that you need to clean a pacifier quickly you have them on hand.
7. Baby Wipes
This one may seem obvious but you can use baby wipes for so many other things other than diaper changes. You can wipe your baby’s face and nose with it, and also clean up other messes!
